I first heard about Dr. Emoto at a Kryon seminar and already then his work inspired several new practices in my life. Having finally read the book and digested the photographs, these ideas are further crystallized in my mind for applying them wider and more creatively.

Dr. Emoto has been doing this research for decades, but his information proliferates on earth at a perfect time when general consciousness is moving swiftly into energetic and spiritual modalities of wellness and healing. If you haven’t already heard of Dr. Emoto’s work, I’d be delighted if you first came across it here!

In brief, the research on water involves taking water samples, freezing them to form water crystals and photographing them in a refrigerated room. His book describes many more intricacies of ensuring accurate results and control of various errors which I won’t describe here. Dr. Emoto’s primary goal was to explore the relationship between the qualities of water crystals formed and the water’s place of origination. For instance, he found that water from springs in Switzerland formed symmetrical hexagonal crystals, whereas tap water from Tokyo could not form crystals at all.

Then, in a leftfield moment, he thought to experiment with exposing water to different types of music, looking to compare water exposed to Mozart and water exposed to heavy metal with accompanying heavy lyrics. He tried Beethoven and Vivaldi too, but doesn’t seem bothered to know the name of the metal band used. I wish he would try some of my favourite musicians too, like Lior and John Mayer.

Fascinated with his results, he then tried to expose water to words! He wrote words such as “Thank You” on paper and stuck them on bottles facing inwards. He tried it in different languages and found different yet equally beautiful crystals with them all! He also tried “You fool” and found deformed crystals as a result. He experimented with writing “Let’s do it” versus “Do it” and saw remarkable differences too!

It gets more fascinating as Dr. Emoto experiments venture on to exposing water to photos; he uses photos of nature, temples, animals etc. In one of the images there is a crystal from water shown a picture of crop circles, looking very cool and alien.

Some of the most profound experiments involved speaking to the water, and praying on it. Water from a polluted lake in Japan was tested before and after some 350 people gathered around to pray on the water and send love and gratitude to the lake. The results were astounding – once deformed and scattered looking water crystals formed beautiful hexagonal snowflake-like structures.

Together, love and gratitude form the major theme of Dr. Emoto’s work, because he thinks of the crystals formed by exposure to these words to be the most beautiful. You might agree if you saw the pictures! He also draws connections between various emotions and elements of the periodic table, and that water, in the image of its chemical identity H2O, suggests that we live with 2 parts gratitude and 1 part love! Too woowoo for you? Perhaps, but that’s no reason to ignore the new knowledge that comes from his research.

Having read the book I find it impossible to deny that:

Consciousness in the form of intent and emotions –travel tangibly yet non-physically through mediums such as words, photos, verbal speech, music, thought and prayer.

Water memorizes what it is exposed too.

Water responds physically to consciousness.

These concepts are already familiar ideas to humans! We have often thought of the emotional and intentional aspects of our lives as non-scientific, yet we are aware of how different they make us feel and how they affect our health as well. In his research, Dr. Emoto has taken a giant step forward by creating scientific basis to that dynamic, softening hard science and substantiating spiritual ideas at the same time. Go Dr. Emoto!

I am thoroughly enjoying that in this little book, this fantastic man has shown masses of people photographic proof of a tangible link between consciousness and matter. It is a home run for consciousness! If, like me you subscribe to the idea that raising consciousness is the only way forward for the planet –Dr. Emoto’s work is exciting beyond words!

Here are some things I do that are inspired from Dr. Emoto’s research:

Photos of people I love and am grateful for in the kitchen, near my drinking water jars.

Stickers with the words LOVE and GRATITUDE stuck on water jars and food containers.

I hold my food and drink in both hands and whisper “thank you”before consuming them.

Consciously keep in a space of love and gratitude as often as I remember, especially when working in the kitchen.

Placing water I’ve distilled out in the sun for a few hours before drinking.

Another thing I’d like to do but haven’t gotten around to, inspired by how MEMON devices use crystals for programming harmonizing frequencies, is to a quartz crystal, charge it up with intention for love and gratitude, and put that crystal inside my distiller’s output container where distilled water and crystal will hang out together.

Dover Park Hospice

Today was only my second visit to DPH as a volunteer. My task was ambulance driver.

A patient's final wish was for a last chance to see his wife. He's not seen her for the past 3 weeks he's been hospitalized, and his wife isn't mobile either. We went to pick her up with the ambulance and nothing less than a wheelchair, 3 student nurses and Edward our Director of Nurses (apparently known as a DON! - cool name huh?)

The patient's face is not the most expressive. His mouth is always open, his teeth are not there. His face, weathered. When we arrived with his wife, the muscles of his face could barely lift a smile but where they still managed to make him look like the happiest man in the world.

*That* was today's most profound moment.

A few drinks later it was time to say good bye, the last time they'd ever see each other again. How do you say goodbye to someone you've lived with for 60 years?

Volunteering at the hospice is going to be a challenge.

Today I watched a couple say their last good bye and saw how little the small stuff mattered.

Jack the Smoothie

This morning's smoothie is particularly delicious so here it is!

2 ripe bananas
8 pods of jackfruit (squeeze out the seeds, of course!)
250g Chye Sim
1 small tomato
1 tray of ice (equivalent to 1 3/4 cups water)
1 1/2 cups water

Its good guys, try it try it!

How to sprout lentils

I am totally turned on to lentils.

Lentils are fabulous. Not only are they tasty and incredibly fast to sprout, they're also a whopping 20% protein. Fat only makes up 5% and carbs the other 75%, so you could eat plenty of this food without worrying about your fat intake. Is that an awesome alternative to nuts (70% fat) or seeds (60% fat) or what?!

Step 1: Be sure to buy whole lentils - if you buy split lentils, they won't sprout as they've been semi-cooked already. In fact, even whole lentils from the health food store generally have low sprout rates (40-50%), so for this reason I buy my lentils from www.sproutpeople.com. They have an amazing variety never seen by the urban human and the sprout rates are really good.

Measure out a 1/2 cup of lentils. My sprouter is about 10 inches X 8 inches and this works well for about this amount of sprouts. This amount can vary quite a lot so just experiment depending on how large your sprouting device is (see later).

Step 2: Add good water. What is good water? Water without chlorine. I use distilled water for this stage, because my tap water has chloramine (a chlorine derivative) in it thanks to Singapore Public Utilities. A normal carbon filter does not reduce chloramine levels. Good water is not essential to sprouting but it will increase your sprout rate. Now the lentils will have to stay in water for about 8 hours. If you're in a cold environment, you can give it more time (like 12 hours). Have the water level about 3 times higher than the lentil level, as they'll expand significantly while soaking.

Step 3: So after soaking, transfer them to your sprouter and give them a good rinse. A shower head is ideal for rinsing - don't be stingy with water while rinsing, give it a good bath. If you're wondering what to use as a sprout medium, any basket with small holes is going to work in a humid environment. If you're in a drier environment you can the same jar - just cover it with a screen and turn it upside down. A sprout bag also works well in either environment. After rinsing, put a thick wet towel over the top. You'll need to rinse it approximately twice a day (more rinses are ok too), morning and night. Keep the sprouts out of intense heat and away from direct sunshine.
After about 1.5 days, your sprouts should have a tail. They are usually tastiest when the tail is about as long as the lentil, but it doesn't matter much. In fact, you can eat them after the soaking period already, they're just even more nutritious and digestible after another day of sprouting.
Give them a last rinse just before you eat them to minimize your chance of eating mold (the chance is low, I often eat straight from the sprouter and have never had a tummy ache before).

I often end up eating most of these babies plain - if you've never had lentil sprouts before you're in for a treat because they are really tasty :) My salads are always full of these, they increase a salad's satisfaction value tremendously!

So, enjoy and eat lots of sprouts! Please feel free to post questions in the comments, it'll also help me to improve the quality of the instructions.

Edit:

These days I sprout my lentils (and other beans) in a hemp sprout bag. They are a lot easier to rinse, and the sprouts grow faster, more evenly and with more yield as well! If you're looking for a bag in Singapore, drop me a line because I have tons of them which I bought from Sproutman in NY.

Street food

I like to carry a sharp pocket knife (sheathed) and a spoon wrapped in a little towel in my day pack, then I've always got great food to e at anytime you're near a supermarket, or an urban fruit seller in this case. I've been drinking it for lunch / tea time (it usually makes meal 2 of ...hmm, 76 for the day).

You'll need a blender and some rolled oats.
What are rolled oats? They are oats that have been steamed, flattened and dried, just like the ones you find in muesli mixes.

When buying rolled oats, look out for packets that indicate that they are whole grain. If they don't state whole grain, they are usually partially milled indicating that a portion of the fiber and other nutrients have been removed. If you can't find a single whole grain packet in your shop, look for the oats that look the darkest, indicating that most of the fiber is still on the grain.

Note that oats are grains and cannot be eaten raw safely (in some cases raw grains can be eaten raw if sprouted for several days, but even then, not by many people, myself included). Rolled oats are not raw, they have been cooked through steaming.

Oat Milk (makes 1 liter)

1 cup rolled oats
800 mls water
2 tablespoons honey (agave nectar if you're one of those vegans ;)

Put the oats and sweetener in a blender and add about 1/3 of the water. Blend on high until the mixture gets as smooth as it will get.

Add the remaining water and blend a little more to mix.

The result is a thick oat milk that has much more fiber than a commercially purchased grain milk. You could strain away the fiber for a smooth milk but it is certainly better to consume the drink whole.

Trying to vibrate higher

What does the person who seeks enlightenment do when his heart is hurting?

He resists closing in anger, breathes, opens, and loves even more fiercely than before.

He sings, he dances. In my opinion they are one of the tastiest available species!

I ate 2 cups of sprouted lentils, adzuki and mung for lunch but was still hungry enough to eat this combo just 2 hours later.

Prized permaculture books arrived

The postman just arrived with my latest indulgence - Bill Mollison's 2 most celebrated permaculture publications! A lot of thoughts joined dots as I wrote this, and its helping me clarify my ideas on nutrition and healing.

The thing that I struggle most with is overeating. Nobody believes it because to them I look... my mum's favourite description - gaunt. But I have a compulsive overeating streak that runs through me, usually days at a time, and it really hurts me physically. My embarking on the natural health journey seems to have seriously exacerbated the issue - it was never something I really worried about before (despite being 20kgs heavier than now nor could I stuff as much food down before as I can now. I'm not sure if its just that becoming more health aware has made this problem so much more visible, or if its just that my stomach has grown so much to accommodate mega amounts of fruit and veg, or if I'm just abusing myself so much harder because I think I've bought so much "good eating karma".

Yesterday I gave a presentation to some good folks at Citigroup about taking health back through food. I showed them my diet on a good day, and then explained why I called it - a "good" day and shared with them just how bad a bad day could get, like box-of-mooncakes-no-problem-bad. Victoras Kulvinskas once wrote about how he'd be swallowing bags of Doritos between giving raw food talks - but many other raw food teachers preach of their decades of 100% raw vegan dedication and imply their holier than thou status, and that created this suspicious ideal that set me up with a constant seeking of 100% diet perfection. I feel that this incredibly difficult to attain goal fueled many of my eating compulsions and so I wanted to share that with the audience immediately after showing them my diet on a good day, although it undoubtedly makes the presentation less sensational and perhaps less motivating to get into natural health. Oh well. I decided that my goal would be to share, plant seeds and be as honest with myself as I could - certainly not a forte but one that I'm working on!

Thought I'd attach this photo I once had with Baba in 1981. Aren't I wretched? Photo taking with an avatar and I'm as peaceful as steak on a skillet. The biggest Sai Baba story of my life happened before I was born. My parents were having serious marriage difficulties which motivated my dad to see baba in the first place. They were considering divorce. For whatever reason, during the interview Baba said "I give you a son". My mum's heart must have stopped - she already had 3 daughters and another child was the last thing she wanted. Well, they came back home, consulted with my mum's mother something to the effect of "well if this holy man says so you guys should go for it"... and I reckon they must have had starch for brains but they decided to try and have a baby - and so I was born. I soon became known as Baba's boy, and grew up understanding that I was here to save my parents from killing each other. I had divine expectations of myself, and always wondered why I wasn't supernormal. Its been a big challenge for me this life, for sure.

Gosh I just put this and my eating disorder together. 8-O

Charting an eating disorder

Well, I know I have an eating disorder for sure, and for sure it is a strange one.
Today I wiki-ed overeating and found a page on compulsive overeating. Its descriptions matched my life accurately, except that I am not overweight. Sure - unlike most compulsive overeaters, I fast occasionally, have a very rigorous workout schedule and am mostly raw vegan...I mean, I even live a natural hygiene based lifestyle - when I'm not overeating that is.

Then for days or weeks at a time, Mr. Hyde steps out and I exhibit textbook compulsive overeating behavior and symptoms.

I'm thinking of buying the book on OA's (overeaters anonymous) 12 step process to help me but already I'm doubtful - I think I might already be too perverted and have tried too many psychological and spiritual programs of self-improvement or development at this stage.

What should I do? The urge to try and fix overeating using food journals, eating low calorie foods, drinking tons of water etc. is gone - I am certain that in the last 2 years I have exhausted all methods of trying to control overeating at a physical level. At this stage I believe only God can help - and it'd make sense. My desires for driving this body into perfection stem from wanting to make it a clean temple from which I can serve divinity after all.

If the scientists are right and eating disorders are linked to issues of self-worth and feeling compelled into trying to be perfect, then self-worth is the big issue to work on. On that thread I've just been reading Kryon book ten (A new dispensation). He has given instructions for those transitioning from old-conciousness-to-new-conciousness to claim their self-worth, and among them he clearly states to use one's CREATIVITY and to HELP OTHERS. So on that note, I am now going to spend an hour a day song writing and have registered as a volunteer with Dover Park Hospice.

Song writing is interesting - I've never tried it before. Its a lot harder than jamming along to Jack Johnson songs... it must be waking up parts of me that I've not used much. The hospice volunteer orientation is on the 22nd. Here we go! Its been the best decision of the year to close the studio - its allowed me all this time to EXPLORE! I am so grateful to be able to do yoga everyday, to ride my fixie around the country, to write songs, have time to volunteer... and gosh - even go to the Panya Project to learn about permaculture! Woo hoo!

Today is my birthday!

For my birthday I asked for help with self worth.
